Rebuilding Nooalf Site

Postby JO 753 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 8:19 am

I woud occasionally get comments that the site looked bad, usually from software people. I figured they were just too deep in the forrest, so didn't make any effort to modernize it. An advantage it had was that it worked well no matter how old someone's computer or how slow their connection.

But, it was starting to look stale to me, and finally someone said 'get some html on that, dude' so I've been upgrading it for the last few months.

I got a program called Site Spinner to get me started and it was a big help. You just drag & drop stuff wherever you want it to be and it does all the code. I only did 1 page with it and then refined, copied and adapted that page into more.

Its still mostly the old site, but the new stuff is gradually replacing the old. Eventually it will be all in the new style, but with links to the old site. The biggest difference aside from the appearance is that its written mostly in Nooalf. NQaLF. XU FYQCR UV SPeLING

Any genius programmers here?

I wanted to do mouseover for the sounds on the new CoRT page, but I couldn't get it to work. I found several different versions of the JAVA code for sound on mouseover and either I am messing something up or it's just not very reliable.

What I've done instead is have pop ups to mini pages and an alternative that has a completely new page for every sound that's identical except for the single sound it plays.

Neither works as well as mouseover when mouseover works.

No replies yet! Why am I not surprised?

One of the big subprojects for Nooalf is generating reading material. The site now has a STOREZ section.

If you have an original short story and believe it's good enuf to be read by other people, here's a way to get it published. You can either take a crack at transcribing it into Nooalf yourself, or if you're not confident with your ability to master the system AND your story is good enuf, I can do it.

I shoud hav joined the Webdev forum a long time ago. A member name Sempervivum did the coding for the mouseover & onklik sound clips and a member named Tracknut recomended uzing png format for picturez. Both are revolutionz for the site.

The png works great for making text into picturez. I wuz able to create the new PRoDUKS pajez in less than a week whereaz it woud hav taken at least a month uzing gif and probably not looked az good.

I wuz trying to 'embed' the fonts, wich makes the fonts show up without vizitorz having to install them, but apparently its still not eazy enuf to do for me. On that paje, the bottom line iz suppozed to be in the SeReNITE font, but it iznt on this Chromebook or a netbook I hav with Linux Mint OS.

Making the text into picturez iz fool proof, so I'm sticking with it for at least another 5 yirz. Really, the only downside iz if I want to chanje sumthing its not az eazy az just editing it.
