You need to edit your post, phobos. The quote tags are wrong. But, I will reply to your points anyway.

You are obviously angry. Insulting me doesn't help your case. I suppose you were trying to argue that I know nothing about guns, therefor have no business discussing the subject. Let me try a counter-example:

Quadcopters are popular and getting cheap. Sales are accelerating. Suppose in 10 years they are everywhere and accidents with them are becoming an everyday occurance.

Will you complain if the government starts restricting them or that the government isn't doing enuf?

Don't you agree that the hobbyists will be on the 'quadcopter rights' side and the non-quadcopter hobbyist citizens who have been hit or had their property damaged or privacy comprimised will be in favor of regulations?

The 'mother of a dead 7 year old' is not changing the subject, it is the other side of the debate. Trying to make it only about the 2nd amendment doesn't work.

JO 753, I won't read your last post, because it is a waste of my time devoted
to a non-argument-maker when it comes to the main topics in this thread.

I haven't forfeited anything, because you stopped debating many posts ago and went into irrational posts and emotionalism. My point before this post is that it's futile to attempt to
debate with someone like you who won't debate properly.

I think the operation of a firearm should be restricted to the confines of the owner's private property.

What if someone shoots out of their window?

Or if an apartment dweller shoots someone thru the wall in the next apartment?

Alot of fatalities occur in homes now, so your rule wouldn't affect those cases.

I suspect a significant fraction of these unfortunate events follow in the footsteps of allowing general and public firearm access outside the confines of the home.

Why?

Firing ranges are outside the home, yet I don't hear much about incidents there.

Yes this is a good way to understand the need for suitable control of firearm use in venues which are gathering places. The firing range and the apartment complex are owned by entities which "share, lease, or sell" access to the public. Would it not be reasonable to legally require safeguards and licensing procedures be applied to these spaces (as they are say for fire prevention)? At the very least in an apartment complex I believe it should be made known to all tenants whether firearms exist on the premises. In the not too distant future I can also envision a firearm which is programmed to become active within defined GPS coordinates, so the technology to enforce localized use may be there soon.

The tek to make guns usable only under certain conditions is definetely coming. Only working for the owner will be a big improvement.

But you can be sure the NRA will do it's best to stop anything it percieves as a restriction.
